Awards for Rutter, Hall-Kahan

Right: Brighton batsman Jack Rutter.

Jack Rutter’s emergence was one of the highlights of Brighton’s 175th season of cricket.

The attacking left-hander hit his maiden century in Sub-District ranks and finished with 363 runs at an average of 40.33.

It was enough for him to win the Tonners’ batting award at last week’s end-of-season presentation.

And he was also named Brighton’s most improved player.

Young paceman Sam Hall-Kahan won the bowling award.

Navin Cooray, who took the Second XI batting award with 393 runs at 49.13, was club champion.

In other awards, Ben Sexton was judged most promising bowler, Lachlan Walsh most promising batsman, David King and Rick Thomas shared the best clubman award, and Emma Hepples received the junior recognition award.

The release of King’s history of Brighton, a Famous Old Club, was a highlight of the Tonners’ 2017-18 season.

The book has received excellent reviews.
