Junior Fair Go, Team Allocation & Awards Policies

Team Allocation Policy

BCC is committed to placing junior players in a team that is at a suitable level taking into account ability and age, as well providing an enjoyable playing environment.

Team Numbers

The maximum number of players to be allocated to junior A grade teams is 12, junior B grade teams is 13, and to all other teams 14.

BCC will endeavor to accommodate all junior players registered by the advertised cut off date each year.

Team Allocation Criteria

As the South East Cricket Association is a graded competition, the allocation of players to junior teams at BCC will take into account the following:

Ability

Attitude

Age (please note the SECA will not accept registrations for players that have not reached 8 years of age)

Previous Experience

Friendship Groups (particularly for the lower grades)

Fair Go Policy

All junior players at Brighton Cricket Club can reasonably expect to be given regular batting and bowling opportunities.

The following guidelines apply:

 

U16A, U16B, U14A, & U12A

All players are to be given a minimum of 2 overs in a 40 over game and 1 over in a 25 over game with the exception of the wicketkeeper.

All players should bat in the first innings of any game.

All Other Grades

All players are to be given a minimum of 2 overs in a 40 over game and 1 over in a 25 over game.

All players should bat in the first innings of any game.

Teams should generally use at least 2 wicketkeepers in an innings and provide a minimum of 1 over to players taking on wicket keeping duties.

Where team numbers exceed 13 on any week, a player may be rostered off, however, no player should be rostered off on more than 1 occasion per season.

Awards Policy

Award Categories

Medallions

All players in the Under 12 Age Group will receive a medallion as recognition of their contribution to their team.

Trophies

All junior teams with the exception of the T20 Blast and In2Cricket will award trophies for batting, bowling and a coach’s award with batting to be awarded on aggregate, and bowling to be determined by dividing the number of wickets taken by the bowler’s economy rate. The Coaches award to be determined by the Manager and Coach of that particular team.

Player of the Year

The U12, U14, U16 and Hatch/ Craig age groups will recognize a “Player of the Year” whose name will be engraved on the Junior Honour Board. The award will be calculated on the following basis:

  • Runs and wickets taken in the highest grade BCC are participating in for the age group: 1 point per run & 12 points per wicket.
  • Runs and wickets taken in the 2nd highest grade BCC are participating in for the age group: 0.8 points per run and 9.6 points per wicket – with the exception of the U12 age group which will be 0.75 points per run and 9 points per wicket.
  • Runs and wickets taken in the 3rd and subsequent grades BCC are participating in for the age group: 0.6 points per run and 7.2 points per wicket – with the exception of the U12 age group which will be 0.5 points per run and 6 points per wicket.
  • For the Hatch / Craig award only: 6 points will also be awarded for a catch or a run out (player returning the ball only).

Awards winners are calculated at the end of the home and away games, finals do not count towards awards.
