I’ve never known the start of a season be affected by the weather as much as this one! It seems every round has been affected by rain or heat and there’s been very little in between. Hopefully 2019 will bring some more ideal weather conditions.

Brighton Unicorns celebrate winning 1/1 |

This year we were particularly excited to have our first All girl team ‘Brighton Unicorns’ who are having a great season. They are pictured above after recording a win in round 1.
Brighton Unicorns were also thrilled to be invited to Melbourne Star’s opening WBBL match at the Junction Oval. Our juniors were on field at the start of the innings to meet the WBBL players and receive a signed cap. A fantastic opportunity to meet some of the top players. |

| Dads & Lads
The Senior 5th Eleven is once again running as a ‘Dads & Lads’ team giving junior players a chance to try playing the senior format on turf wickets and giving fathers and sons a great chance to play together.
The competition is suitable for U14/ U16 Juniors with or without their Dads. So far this season 10 different father / son combinations have participated with a few more set to play in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested in playing, please get in touch. |

While most of the players have a break over the holiday period, January is the month when most of the rep competitions happen.
As a turf club Brighton enters a team in the J G Craig competition. This year’s squad is:

| Girls cricket is currently the fastest expanding area of junior cricket and Puck Okhuizen, who is now in her 3rd season with Brighton, was selected to appear in a TV commercial to promote Girls participation. You can watch the commercial here

A huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time as a Coach or Manager for the season we really appreciate the time and effort you put in to developing our young players.
Thank you too, to all those parents, siblings and friends who regularly help out with umpiring, scoring, training etc. The club could not operate without its volunteers. |
I hope all the players have enjoyed the start of their season. Below I include our ‘Honour Boards’ which celebrate some of the best performances so far. All players can track their own progress and improvement through My Cricket.
