Brighton win Hatch Semi-Final

Brighton today defeated Coburg to win their way through to the Hatch Grand Final to be played at Preston on Sunday. To be in the top two teams out of 28 starters is an amazing effort which the boys should be very proud of.

After winning the toss and batting first, Brighton were quickly in trouble losing 3/34. The highest partnership for the innings (and for the game)  between Harper Leonard and Sam Harrison placed the Tonners in a solid position, however a combination of run outs, poor shot selection and a deck which occasionally kept low saw the BCC boys rolled for 111 int he 38th over.

Brighton bowled 7 overs at Coburg before Tea, and through a Tom Collins wicket had Coburg 1/17. The afternoon session was the best bowling and fielding the boys have shown all tournament. Every bowler who came on did their job, and the wickets were shared between, Harrison (2/12), Earney (2/14), Collins (2/12), Gillies (2/22), Shimmin (1/6 off 5) and Athaide (1/13). James Grant also bowled an aggressive and impressive opening spell which could’ve easily reaped 2 or 3 wickets. Hugh Hamilton’s catching and captaincy should be commended and Harper Leonard on a tough wicket let through only 2 byes.

Brighton dismissed Coburg for 90 in the 40th over.

Today’s win was the most satisfying of the tournament. The wicket kept low and the par score quickly shifted from 170-180, to anything over 100. The boys should learn a lot from batting in more difficult conditions.

Thanks to all the Brighton players who came down to lend their support.
