This week at Brighton – NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED!

THIS WEEK AT BRIGHTON CRICKET CLUB EDITION 9

Hi all Players, Families and Supporters

Happy New Year to you all.  Yours truly has been flat chat and had some email issues before Christmas, but hopefully now that our NEW WEBSITE is up and running, communication will again come on a weekly basis.

Lots have been going on over the last month at Brighton.  Plenty of cricket has been played, Hatch has completed its first 4 games (2 wins, 1 loss and a draw) and there a couple of big events shaping up over the next 6 weeks.  But of most importance to us on the committee is the launch of our new website.  There certainly have been a few teething problems, but credit to Nathan Bird and Ryan Sweeney for getting the website up and running and negotiating all the hurdles put in from of them.  The new web address is bcc1842.com.au.  The old website will re-direct to the new one.  So while it may only look ascetically different, the back end work that will be available to the club is exciting.

VSDCA Dividends

Most would have seen the press reports regarding our Cricket Victoria Dividend, I was able to represent the Club at a Club President’s meeting on Wednesday 11 January 2012.  In short there is a possibility of a $7500 black hole in revenue per VSDCA club for the next 3 years.  We are bound not to say too much at this stage, but the Club President’s all unanimously support the direction taken by the VSDCA Executive and I will endeavour to disclose what I can to members in due course.

The upcoming calendar!

The calendar is alive on the website and will be gradually updated over the next 48 hours for the remainder of the season:

Thursday 19 January 2012 – Hatch final game at home (before finals?)

Thursday 19 January 2012 – T20 Blast as the pre-game entertainment for the MCG Big Bash Game

Saturday 21 January 2012 – Senior games V Bayswater (1sts at home)

Saturday 21 January 2012 – COMEDY NIGHT (8.00pm at the Club Rooms – $30 door charge, Justin Hamilton is the headline act)

Sunday 22 January 2012 – U11 Weetbix Cup semi final v Mt Waverley at Mt Waverley

Sunday 22 January 2012 – 3rd XI play at home v Bayswater

Sunday 12 February 2012 – Rescheduled Round 2 v Mt Waverley

Saturday 18 February 2012 – COCKTAIL PARTY AT HALF MOON

Saturday 25 February 2012 – PAST PLAYERS AND FRIENDS FUNCTION $30 at the club rooms

IN-2-CRICKET AND T20 BLAST THIS WEEKEND

Other than the T20 Blast at the MCG on Thursday as a bonus(!) there is no T20 Blast or In-2-Cricket for another couple of weeks.

DONATION & BEQUEST PROGRAM

As previously announced several times over the last couple of editions, the Club in the past has requested donations as part of its subscription, but given the move to mycricket registration process, we were unable to incorporate that into our registration process.  Last year we raised approximately $4,500 through donations, so far this year, we have only received $700 in donations.  This is a big hole in our cash reserves.

Therefore we kindly request that donations be considered for the club.  The club has over the past four years expended large sums of money on capital improvements (the nets project, kitchen upgrade, installation of the gym, purchase of new covers etc).

This year the club has had a great opportunity to purchase a new heavy roller from Punt Road Oval, which it has done.

The Committee commits to setting up a new Facilities and Capital Expenditure Fund from which all donations will be placed and only significant items over $1,000 are to be expended from these funds.  Bayside Council have indicated that they will be looking to re-develop the Beach Road Oval Pavilion eventually, but any funding will not be in line with practical usage.  We therefore need to build up our “war-chest”.

There are two methods to donate:

Donate directly to the club through Cheque or Direct Debit (BSB 633108 A/c Number 1340 86651)

OR

Donate through your mycricket logins

http://mycricket.cricket.com.au/pages/noauth/olregstart.aspx?entityid=406&fl=1&id=10883&mode=0

The committee thanks you for your consideration.

Thanks

REVIEW OF WEEKENDS 5 NOV – 12 NOV 2011 – MIXED RESULTS

The 1sts bravely fought against Caulfield but Caulfield class batting line up prevailed in great conditions.  Caulfield piled on the runs in the first days play to be 8/375 at the close of play.  Unfortunately for our first XI it was a record score for Caulfield against Brighton.

In reply there were some encouraging signs with Captain / Coach Dale McDonald score 88 not out, Jesse Seven making another fine 65 and Kim Teschendorff making 62.

The seconds had a fantastic win to extract some revenge on their Grand Final loss last year.  Batting first, Rob Wallis (104) and skipper James Perkins-Stafford (95) put on a record 5th wicket partnership for the second XI of 189.  The close of play total was 9/308cc.

Caulfield in week two were always up against it and two early strikes to Dave Salter meant that Caulfield were struggling early.  Late in the day the fields were dismissed for 194 after Finn Spackman wrapped up the tail as all spinners should do with 4/24.  Skipper James Perkins-Stafford tried to steal the man of the match award from Rob with 3 wickets!

The thirds juggernaut keep rolling along, winning its first outright for the season.  Sean Durston-Ryan (5/21 & 3/30) and Mitch Finalyson (3/29 & 5/29) tore through Caulfield’s batting in both innings in great performances.  Chris Walker was the pick of the batters making 49.

The 4ths lost their game at Caulfield after some veterans for Caulfield made big hundreds.  It was great to see some fine performances from our juniors though, Steven Athaide, Aiden Coleman and especially Jack Nichols who put in a fine keeping performance.  Skipper Cameron Milnes, scored 71 and Ben Beck, pushing early for most improved, score 42 in reply.

In the Twilight Legends & Heroes 20/20 fixture on Tuesday night at Malvern.  Our boys had a great win.  Dale McDonald was the pick of the bats helping the tonners get to 174 batting first.  Malvern could only manage 9/153 in reply.

In the juniors, it is the first week of their game.  Good performances so far are Nick Tan 30 in the U14A’s.

In the Weetbix Cup matches, the Under 13’s had a fantastic win against Endeavour Hills and the Under 11’s secured a hard fought win against Caulfield.  Well done guys!

THIS WEEK AT BRIGHTON CRICKET CLUB EDITION 4

Hi all Players, Families and Supporters

It was a shame there was significant rain on Friday and Saturday for minimal cricket and lots of games ending abruptly in the juniors.  Hopefully the forecast for this afternoon / evening through to tomorrow morning is wrong and we get some great cricket under way.

WE HAVE A VICTORIAN REPRESENTATIVE!

Fantastic news was received this week with Orna Higgins from our Under 12’s receiving news that she was selected for the Victorian U12 Girls team.  In chatting with Orna, she was very determined to make the squad and was doing some extra sessions with Club Coach Dale McDonald.  From everybody at Brighton, we are very proud of you Orna and a huge congratulations!!!

IN-2-CRICKET AND T20 BLAST THIS WEEKEND

T20 Blast will be run on Friday evening 4.30pm as a once off and the Milo In-2-Cricket will run as per normal on Saturday morning (9am).

REVIEW OF WEEKEND 21 – 23 OCT 2011 – NOT MUCH CRICKET!

Last year’s memories have not quite been washed away from the memory banks, so it was disappointing for all involved that rain interrupted the majority of matches on the weekend.  There were only 2 completed matches and 4 others got under way, all in the Under 12’s on Saturday morning.

A further update, the website is sitting there ready to go but we are still waiting for the domain name to get cleared.  We have been advised that it will be a matter of days.  We all can’t wait to have it up-and-running.

The club is pleased to announce that we will be holding a lunch on Saturday 12 November 2011, 12.30pm – 3.15pm at the Beach Road clubrooms for all the mums, wives, girlfriends and friends of players and supporters.  We hope to raise some awareness for the Club’s attempt to have some junior girls teams up and running after Christmas.  The CMCA have said that they will get a competition going for girls to introduce them to cricket using the T20 Blast format.  We will also be donating all proceeds of the lunch and any raffles to the McGrath Foundation.

We intend on putting a toy box upstairs in the Clubrooms for kids under 5.  If anybody has any pre-loved toys in good condition that they would like to donate, then please drop them off upstairs at the clubrooms over the next couple of weekends.  I have left a box at the top of the stairs.

THIS WEEK AT BRIGHTON CRICKET CLUB EDITION 3

Hi all Players, Families and Supporters

Great to see more cricket get under way on the weekend. There were certainly some significant highlights, particularly Jesse Seven’s debut 134 in the 1st XI.  Jesse’s ton was the first time anybody had made a debut 1st XI hundred in the Club’s history!  Congratulations Jesse.

Also of great significance was all four senior teams winning the opening round, which was the first time since 1996.

Of the juniors, we had round 1 under way.  A huge thanks to the age group co-ordinators (Mark, Tom and Burger) for dealing with the very tricky and time consuming tasks placed on them this year.  Their passion for cricket and particularly junior cricket is unsurpassed.  The curve balls thrown at us have made their jobs significantly harder and they have handled them with magnificent grace and class.

T20 BLAST STARTS TOMORROW

To those in the T20 Blast program, training will begin tomorrow in the nets at 10am.  We are still awaiting information from Cricket Victoria / Cricket Australia on the program which I have been advised will be next week.

REVIEW OF WEEKEND 14 – 16 OCT 2011 – SEVEN MAKES A SPECTACULAR DEBUT

In Day 2 of Round 1 of the season, the Tonners got off to perfect starts in all elevens against Endeavour Hills.

Attempting to chase down Endeavour Hills’ total of 145, the 1st XI were able to comfortably pass that total 3 wickets down.

Jesse Seven played an exceptional debut innings smashing 7 fours and 7 sixes for 134 off 147 balls in an extraordinary innings that butchered the Endeavour Hill’s attack.

Jesse came to the crease with the tonners in early trouble with Tim Rose chopping on for 1 with the score on 13.  Kim Teschendorff shared a rescuing partnership of 54 with Jesse when Tesch was adjudged LBW to Endeavour Hills Captain John Hayes for 27.

New Captain / Coach Dale McDonald came to the crease and unfortunately only lasted 7 balls after being run out for a duck on a tight run and the tonners were in a precarious position at 3 for 68.

Nathan Bird (28) came to the crease and he and Seven shared in a counter punching run a ball partnership of 96 to steer the ship home.  When rain ceased play the tonners were 7 for 220.

The 2nd XI had a solid win comfortably passing the opposition and putting on a lead of 63.  Efforts were shared around with Nick Wanless scoring 29, Andy Martin 25 and skipper James Perkins-Stafford scoring 25.  Batting again, Endeavour Hills were 6/64 when rain stopped play.

The 3rd XI fought hard in their win in defending their total of 222.  After Endeavour Hills put on 51 for the first wicket, the 3rd XI fought back hard and dismissed their opposition for 137.  Chief destroyers were Mitch Finlayson (3 wickets) and Shaun Durston-Ryan (3 wickets).

Outright was the push for the 4ths and they achieved it quite comfortably.  A lead of 80 was almost enough, with only 31 overs required this time to dismiss Endeavour Hills for 83.  Spinners of contrasting ages took all the wickets this time around with leg spinner Will Crawford taking a 5 wickets from 12 overs and the more seasoned Cam McKenzie also taking 5 wickets.

Six wins from 13 games in the junior ranks.  The close games this week were in the U14D’s scraping home by 2 runs over East Sandy Boys Club and the U12B’s just going down to Beauy by 7 runs.  There were some great performances in the U14’s with Josh Bretherton taking 2 for 2, Josh Rutherford also taking 2 for 2 and Tom Butters taking 2 for 5.

THIS WEEK AT BRIGHTON CRICKET CLUB EDITION 2

Hi all Players, Families and Supporters

What a fantastic day the Family Day was on Sunday.  The skills sessions run by Dale McDonald and the senior playing group were great, the jumping castle was leapt all over, some superb face painting and lots of tasty sausages were consumed.  Special thanks to all involved, especially Mark and Lara who put in a mountain of work putting it all together.

SENIORS REVIEW ROUND 1 (WEEK 1) – THE YOUTH SHINE IN WEEK 1

In Day 1 of the season, the Tonners got off to good starts in all elevens against Endeavour Hills. The first XI lost the toss and bowled on a wicket that Captain Dale McDonald would have bowled on anyway.

Fielding a youthful team of five first time Brighton 1stXI players, the energy was great for the new look team.

In good bowling conditions, wickets were shared around.  Seamers Ryan Sweeney (16 Overs, 2/30) and Andrew Harrod (15 Overs 1/22) bowled big spells for early in the year and first gamer Hamish Graham was impressive from his 12 overs (2/35).

McDonald and Jackson Moffatt took 4 wickets between them as they bowled in off spinning tandem through the middle order of Endeavour Hills.

The Tonners were able to dismiss Endeavour Hills for 145 and Tim Rose and veteran Kim Teschendorff were able to survive 11 overs without losing a wicket.

At Brighton the 2nd XI dismissed Endeavour Hills for 100 and are 3/58 in reply.  Cailain Campbell was the chief destroyer with 4 wickets.

The thirds at Endeavour Hills will have a battle to defend their runs after being dismissed for 222 and Endeavour Hills being 0/20 overnight.  New player Dan Fraser scored an impressive 58.

The Fourth XI demolished Endeavour Hills with Cameron Milnes taking 7 wickets for 17 runs in an outstanding bowling performance in front of a big crowd after the inaugural Brighton Cricket Club Family day to dismiss Endeavour Hills for 47 off 20 overs.

After being in dire trouble, 7 for 28, Hugh Hamilton (38*) and Will Crawford (43) showed the older blokes in the team how to pile on the runs!  They were dismissed at stumps for 127.

WOMENS WEEKEND OF CRICKET

The club is pleased to announce that we will be holding a lunch on Saturday 12 November 2011, 12.30pm – 3.15pm at the Beach Road clubrooms for all the mums, wives, girlfriends and friends of players and supporters.  We hope to raise some awareness for the Club’s attempt to have some junior girls teams up and running after Christmas.  The CMCA have said that they will get a competition going for girls to introduce them to cricket using the T20 Blast format.  We will also be donating all proceeds of the lunch and any raffles to the McGrath Foundation.

We will have some fantastic guest speakers on the day.  We will be sending out a flyer over the weekend regarding this event.

THIS WEEK AT BRIGHTON CRICKET CLUB

Hi all Players, Families and Supporters

This is the first for our new initiative in keeping you all informed at the events coming up at Brighton this week and general news from around the traps at Brighton.  Following our move across into the Mycricket registration system, our communication abilities with the whole club will have greater flexibility and greater ease of use.

FAMILY DAY

As you should be aware we are having a fantastic Family Day on Sunday.  There will be a jumping castle and face painting for the little ones, a skills session run by the senior playing group for junior teams and shirt and cap presentations for the junior teams.  There will be a BBQ running and drinks will be available from the bar.  Following this, weather permitting, the 4th XI will be playing their first match of the year.  Kick off is from 11am.

SENIOR CRICKET STARTS THIS WEEKEND

After a huge pre-season, Dale McDonald and the senior boys get going this weekend versus Endeavour Hills.  The 1st XI are away at Endeavour Hills.  Congratulations to all the debut 1st XI players, Dale McDonald (Captain / Coach, top order bat and off spin bowler), Jesse Seven (hard hitting number 3), Tom Hamilton (middle order bat) and Hamish Graham (tall medium swing bowler).  It is great to see some “home grown” talent in Tom, Hamish and Jackson Moffitt (off spinner) all getting opportunities early in the season.

The 2nd XI is to be lead again by James Perkins-Stafford, are at home on Saturday.  Sean Wilson again will captain the thirds after an undefeated year last year (away at Endeavour Hills on Saturday).  And Cameron Milnes is leading the fourths following their brilliant win last year (home on Sunday v Endeavour Hills).

Good luck to everybody this weekend and welcome to all the first game players at the club.

COMMITTEE CHANGES

We wish to advise that Cameron Milnes has had to stand aside as President due to personal reasons and Tas Tudor has been elected by the committee as Acting President until this next AGM. Ryan Sweeney slides across into the Secretary role.
